Our Classroom
I know that right now, we can't all be together in our classroom. I'm leaving this page up because I am so excited for a time when we can all be together in it again and because I want you to see what it's like!
In the summer of 2018, I was fortunate enough to win a classroom makeover. A team came in and renovated the entire room. I received new furniture, hundreds of new books, a beautiful new paint job, and even new wood floors!
Before the makeover began, I was given a chance for input. I asked for a room that felt comfortable and safe, where students would have a place to work in whatever place and way they felt best. The result was truly more than I could have imagined!
I now have more than 45 unique places for students to work, based on the activity and their personal needs as a learner. Students can lay back and read in our couches and comfy chairs, or sit upright at a desk. I have spots specifically designed for students who have extra energy and need to move to stay focused. Some learners like to sit on the rug, or lounge on the "Nugget" cushion. As long as students are able to stay focused and learn, they may choose their spot.
I feel so grateful to have this beautiful space, and expect all students to treat it with love and respect. This is a new environment for a lot of students and families, so if you have any questions please reach out!
I ask my students to call the classroom "our classroom" and never "Ms. Reeves' classroom." We are constantly working together to improve the space. I am always asking students what works and what doesn't. We add furniture, or take things away. We move tables and chairs around, and switch up the lighting. The space is all of ours, and I want students to take ownership over that. Everything that happens in our class is a complete community effort.
